What is iPhone Portrait Mode

iPhone Portrait Method allows you to create a more deep high-res photo, which makes your photo a much better artistic appearance. Portrait mode creates a DSLR like effect in which the subject under focus is clear, while the background is blurred. While, Portrait Mode is only available on iPhone X, 7 Plus, and 8 Plus. If you own one of these iPhone models, then you can try the tips in this article to take extraodinary photos with Portrait mode. Also with the help of Portrait Lighting feature in iOS 11, you can bring amazing feeling to the photo. It can be quite useful if you like sharing cool photos in Instagram.

Taking portraits on iPhone is an easy feat. 

Step 1: Simply open your iPhone camera.

Step 2: Among other camera modes that are available such as Slow-Mo, Time-Lapse, Square, etc, switch to PORTRAIT by rotating the slide menu at the bottom of the camera app.

Step 3: The camero will detect the subject automatically.

Step 3: Tap camero shutter icon to take your photo.

After taking the photo, you can view all the portraits in Photos app, also further edit or crop it just by tap "Edit".

How to Add Portrait Lightning

While taking portrait photos and editing them is not difficult, another cool feature available in iOS 11 is Portrait Lighting, which enables you to enhance the quality of your photo even further. It allows you to add relevant light filters to the photos.

To add portrait lighting effect, you just have to click on the hexagon at the bottom of the camera app, and a dial will appear. You can cycle through the available options to select the particular lightning you want.

There are 5 different light effect.

1. Natural Light: This simply blurs the background, keeping the photo close to original.

2. Studio Light: Makes the photo looks as if it were taken in a studio by brightening highlights.

3. Contour Light: This adds depth and shade.

4. Stage Light: Cuts out the subject and puts them against dark background.

5. Stage Light Mono: Same as previous, except makes the photo black and white.

One last note, Portrait Mode is an effective feature present on the newer iPhones, it is only available on iPhone 7 Plus, 8 Plus, and iPhone X.
