Make a Voice Memo a Ringtone on iPhone XS/X/8/8 Plus/7/6S/6

Step 1: Connect your iPhone to PC with the USB cable and launch iTunes on PC. Then add the voice memo file to library.

Select “Songs” on the left category. Click “File” and choose “Add File to Library”. Choose the voice memo from your PC. You need to transfer voice memos from iPhone to PC first.

Step 2: Make a no more than 30-second-long file.

Since the maximum time for ringtones is 30 seconds, we need to edit the voice memo to a file within 30 seconds. If your voice memo is less than 30 seconds, please ignore this step.

Right click the song to enter the “Song Info” page. Select “Option” and tick “start” and “stop” to set the customized ringtone length no more than 30 seconds. Then click “OK”.

Step 3: Set AAC Encoder.

The reason why we do AAC encoder is that we need the HLS function. And The TS file required by HLS requires audio to be encoded in AAC.

Click “Edit” on the top left corner in iTunes homepage, and select “preference”. Continue with “General” -”Import Settings” -”Import Using”, and choose “AAC Encoder”, click “OK”.

Step 4: Convert the voice memo to AAC version.

Select the voice memo which was edited before, click “File” on the top left in iTunes homepage then select “Convert”, continue with “Create AAC Version”.

Step 5: Rename the voice memo from M4A format to M4R format file.

The format of the memo voice is M4A, but only M4R format is supported by iPhone ringtone. We need to convert the M4A file into M4R format first.

The edited voice memo shows up. Right click it and select “Show in Windows Explorer”. In Windows Explorer, right click the voice memo and rename the file extension from M4A to M4R. And click “Yes” in the pop-up window. Please do not close the windows explorer.

Note: If there is no file extension showed in the windows explorer when renaming, set it like this: Open any folder - click “View”- tick “File Name Extensions”.

Step 6: Copy the M4R format voice memo from windows explorer and paste it into iPhone Tones.

Step 7: Find the voice memo on your iPhone and set the voice memo as ringtone for iPhone.

Do it as this: Settings - Sounds - Ringtone – Choose voice memo.

Step 8: Set a specific voice memo as ringtone to a designated contact.

You can set a voice memo to a special ringtone just for the one you love. Then you can enjoy her / his voice when the call comes, and know who calls you just according to the ringtone.

Open one contact and tap “Edit” in the top right corner. Tap “Ringtone” and choose the voice memo as his / her special ringtone.
