Step 1. Find the GIF you want to save.

Step 2. Hold on the GIF until a menu with the "Save Image" button pops out.

Step 3. Tap "Save Image" to download and save it on your Camera Roll.

All downloaded GIF files can be found in the Camera Roll or All Photos section of your Photos app on your iPhone. However, there is a big difference between downloading GIFs to an iOS 12 or iOS 11 and iOS 10 device. On iOS 11 device, the Photos app supports GIF files so you can see the animated gif in the app. But on iOS 10 device, you will see the GIF file as a still photo, which won't move. But once you've sent the GIF, it will reanimate and your friends will get the animated GIF.
