How to Install and Set up Microsoft Office on iPad

Owners of iPad with screen equal to or smaller than 10.1inches are allowed to run the Office apps (reading, creating, editing, etc.) for free. Owners of iPad with screen larger than 10.1 inches (like the new 10.5 inches iPad Pro) can only view and print existing documents unless the user has an Office 365 subscription with "mobile device rights", according to the app license agreement.

Part 1: Install Microsoft Office on iPad

Microsoft Office works in Operating System iOS 7+. Instead of having Word, PowerPoint, and Excel accessible in one app, Microsoft made them 3 different apps. So you need to download and install Microsoft Office on iPad separately.

Step 1: Search “Microsoft Office for iPad” in App Store.

Step 2: The Microsoft Office apps like Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Excel are presenting here. Click “GET” to download Microsoft Word as an example.

Step 4: The application will show on the iPad when the download is completed.

Part 2: Set up Microsoft Office Apps on iPad

Although it is free to use core edition function for the iPad screens equal to or smaller than 10.1 inches, but the Microsoft account is required. If you do not choose sign into the app with Microsoft account, it will only provide “read” access. So let us start to set up Microsoft Office on iPad now.

Step 1: Open Microsoft Word and Click “Sign In” if you have a Microsoft Account or an Office 365 work or school account. If you do not have an Office account, click “Create an Account” to create a new Microsoft Account with an email address you have. If all you want to do is to view documents on iPad you can just tap “Sign in Later” and then view for free.

Step 2: Enter your email address. You can use your work, school or personal Microsoft account. Click “Next”.

Note: For a new Microsoft Account, you should also create a password and then follow the prompts to verify your identity.

Step 3: Enter your account password and Click “Sign in”.

Step 4: Click “Turn on Notifications to enable alerts” or “Not Now” to opt out.

Click “Create and Edit” to start working on your documents.

Note: If you want to get higher levels of editing and functionality features, you need to have an Office 365 subscription. Then you will get the features such as tracking and reviewing changes in Word, customizing Pivot Tables and Excel, and checking speaker notes while presenting in PowerPoint. Step 5: To add another account, like OneDrive for Business or Dropbox, click “Account”, then click “Add a Service”.

Part 3: Transfer Microsoft Office Files from PC to iPad

If you want to view the Microsoft Office files which are created on PC, downloaded from internet or sent from your partner on iPad, you need to transfer the files from PC to iPad first. Here we recommend you two methods to transfer the files and you can choose the way you like.
