Practical Ways to Fix it When iPhone Keeps Asking for Password

Method 1 Restart iMessage and FaceTime

Both iMessage and FaceTime use Apple ID even they’re left idle. If there’s something abnormal with their accounts or activation, glitches may occur. So, if you encounter iPhone keeps asking for password, you’d better check their settings first and reactivate them both.

Here is how to do it:

For iMessage: Go to Settings > Messages > iMessage. Toggle it off and on again. Then, retype the password to activate it.

For FaceTime: Similarly, go to Settings > FaceTime > FaceTime. Toggle it off and then, toggle it on. Retype the password to activate it.

Method 2 Reboot Your iPhone

Rebooting iPhone seems to be a very handy and simple trick. However, it fixes iPhone issues in many cases and you might as well give it a shot.

Different iPhone models have different ways to reboot. Here, I divided them into 2 groups.

For iPhone 8 and earlier models

1.       Long press the top Power button until the slider appears.

2.       Swipe the slide bar to the right to shut down the device.

3.       After shutting down, long press the Power button again until you see Apple logo to reboot the device.

For iPhone X and Later Models

1.       Long press the side button and the volume down button until the slider appears

2.       Swipe it to right to shut down the device

3.       Long press the side button again to launch the device.

Method 3 Sign out of iCloud

If the 2 methods above don’t fix this problem, you might as well try signing out of iCloud and sign in again.

Go to Settings > iCloud, tap on Sign Out at the bottom and confirm it to continue.

Then, tap on Sign In.

Method 4 Make Sure iCloud Service is Working Properly

If it’s not your iPhone that causes the problem, then, it might be caused by Apple itself.

If the Apple’s official server is crashed or doesn’t work properly, glitches can occur.

Go to https://www.apple.com/uk/support/systemstatus/ to check Apple’s system status and make sure they’re all “green light”.

Method 5 Ensure Your iPhone Is Running on the Latest iOS Version

The problem iPhone keeping asking for password might be a bug of iOS. So, you should check whether there is a latest iOS update patch released by Apple to fix it.

Tip: Before updating iOS, back up your iPhone first.

You can go to Settings > General > Software Update. Wait until the process “Checking for Update…” finished. Then, follow the onscreen guide to update iOS.

If you can’t update iOS via Settings, for example, it shows “Your software is up to date”, you can try iTunes.

1.       Make sure iTunes has been updated to the latest version.

2.       Launch iTunes and connect your iPhone to PC via a USB cable.

3.       Click on your iPhone on the upper left and click on “Check for Update” on the upper right.

4.       Follow the onscreen guide to finish the update

Method 6 Restore Your iPhone via iTunes

If an iPhone restore process is interrupted, the data can stay incomplete and iPhone keeps asking for password over and over again. 1.       Make sure iTunes has been the latest version.

2.       Launch iTunes and connect your iPhone to PC via a USB cable.

3.       Select your device on the upper left.

5.       Check the date and the size of each backup and choose the one you need.

6.       Click on Restore and wait until the process is finished.

7.       Keep your device connected to PC after it restarts. When the sync is completed, you can remove it.
