If you want to do something quite like take a nap without being distracting by the notifications on your iPhone or iPad, you can turn on the iPhone Do Not Disturb mode. In this article, I will show you everything you need to know about Do Not Disturb mode and a few advanced tips.
How Does Do Not Disturb Mode work?
When Do Not Disturb is on, all calls, messages, and other notification you receive won’t make any noise, or vibration when your iOS device is locked. That’s it to say, when your iPhone is not locked, Do Not Disturb Mode does not have an effect.
When your iPhone is locked and Do Not Disturb is on, your phone will still receive calls, texts, or other notification, but the screen doesn’t light up. Since Do Not Disturb mode only silence the notifications you receive, it does not affect the alarms you set. Your iPhone alarm will still go off as it should if Do Not Disturb is mode.
How to Turn on Do Not Disturb Mode on iPhone
You can turn on Do Not Disturb Mode from the Control Center or Settings.
From Control Center
You can easily slide up from the bottom of the screen to access the Control Center, and from there, tap on the crescent moon icon to enable Do Not Disturb Mode.
Do Not Disturb for 1 Hour
If you want to quickly set up Do Not Disturb mode for an hour, you can press and hold on the crescent moon icon until it pops up options for you to enable Do Not Disturb mode for 1 hour, utile this evening or until I leave this location.
Schedule Do Not Disturb Mode
You can also set up Do Not Disturb to be enabled in a scheduled time in Settings. Just go to Settings and select Do Not Disturb. Toggle on the Scheduled option to enable iPhone Do Not Disturb for bedtime.
This is very helpful to get a good sleep without interruption of iOS notifications. The default time for scheduled Do Not Disturb is from 10:00 PM to &:00 AM. Of course, you can change that to whatever time period that suits you.
Do Not Disturb While Driving
In iOS 11 or iOS 12, you can set your iPhone to turn on Do Not Disturb Mode while driving. As you know, it is dangerous to check notifications while driving. Therefore, this is a great feature to keep you safe from distractions.
To turn it on, just navigate to Settings > Do Not Disturb > Activate under Do Not Disturb while driving. Then you will have three options, Automatically, When Connected to Car Bluetooth, and Manually.
Automatically option is the safest, but it may also turn on Do Not Disturb mode when you take a cab. The second option When Connected to Car Bluetooth is more recommended if your car has Bluetooth connectivity.
You can also choose Manually and add a shortcut Do Not Disturb While Driving to Control Center to make this more convenient. To do this, go to Settings > Control Center > Customize Controls > and tap to add Do Not Disturb While Driving.
Use Siri Shortcuts to Customize Do Not Disturb Mode
As for now, you have a few ways to turn on Do Not Disturb mode. If you want to trigger Do Not Disturb with an even more complex situation, you can use the new feature Siri Shortcuts in iOS 12.
You can use the Shortcuts app to create a shortcut to turn on Do Not Disturb mode for a certain time period. For example, I just created shortcut Take a Nap. When I want to take a nap, I just run this shortcut.
It will ask me to select how long I want to sleep and then turns on Do Not Disturb. When the selected time period is passed, it will automatically turn off Do Not Disturb and clock alarm will off.
You can also use it to do more complicated things with Shortcuts. If you are interested, you can also explore other pre-made useful Siri Shortcuts.
