If you are using iOS 11, you may discover that WiFi is either always on, or automatically turns on after a while if you've turned it off.

Why WiFi automatically turn on on iPhone in iOS 11?

The reason is that Apple has intentionally applied an update which makes you unable to quickly turn off the WiFi completely. If you disable Wifi, either through the control panel, the iPhone just disconnects from the current WiFi connection, instead of completely switching it off. This move has been severely criticized by security researchers.

Apple has done this in order to make sure that certain features keep running in the background. For example, location services, connection with Apple Watch, Apple's file transfer and streaming services such as AirDrop and AirPlay etc. The WiFi service is still accessible to other devices connected to the iPhone, or by location services.

And while this may be helpful in certain situations, it can be highly counterproductive in many situations. For example, if you have a low battery, or on the road, and want to conserve battery, then you do not want the WiFi receiver to be running the background and draining precious battery.

Similarly, it can also be a concern for security. Hackers may be able to get access to your device by exploiting weaknesses in WiFi or Bluetooth.

How to completely turn off WiFi in iOS 11?

In order to completely take care of the iOS 11 WiFi issue, you need to do the following steps each time.
