After getting a new iPhone 7 or latest IPhone 8/X, the first thing you will have to do is to transfer the Contacts from your old device to new iPhone. If you don't transfer the Contacts to your new iPhone timely, you may miss some important calls while you are hesitating to answer the calls from unknown numbers.
iPhone doesn't store contacts on the SIM card, you can only store Contacts in the iPhone’s memory. So if you were using a non-Apple phone, then it will be very easy to transfer the Contacts to your new iPhone X/8/7. You just need to ensure all the Contacts in your previous device are stored on the SIM card, insert the SIM card to your new iPhone, tap Settings> Contacts> Import SIM Contacts, and wait until the import complete.

Step 3: Select Contacts and then click on the Transfer to PC button.
You can click Set transfer path to customize the save path of saved Contacts file. By default, it will be saved to the Documents folder.
*The Contacts will be saved as .ctt file on your computer.
Step 4: Disconnect the old iPhone, connect the new iPhone and then switch to MANAGE tab
Step 5: Click the Contacts on the left pane, and click the Import icon to choose the .ctt file to begin the transfer process.
Transfer some of Contacts separately

iCloud can help sync photos, videos, documents, notes and contacts. Let see how to use it transfer the Contacts to new iPhone:
Step 1: On your old iPhone, go to Settings-> tap the Apple ID profile part (the name at the top) ->click iCloud->ensure you've enabled the Contacts.
Step 2: On your new iPhone, go to Settings-> tap the Apple ID profile part (the name at the top) ->click iCloud->tap Contacts turn it on-> Select Merge when the pop-up notification appears. And you can wait for a while until the merge process completes.
Transferring Contacts to a new iPhone using iCloud seems quite simple. However, you can't select what to transfer and you may fail to sync all your contacts.
How to Transfer Contacts to New iPhone X/8/7 with iTunes
If you don't use iCloud, you can also transfer iPhone Contacts with iTunes. Please refer the steps below:
Step 1: Backup the data of the old iPhone to your computer.
Connect your old device to your computer-> Open iTunes-> click the Device icon to display the Summary contents-> select This computer in the Backups part-> click on the Back Up Now button.
Step 2: Restore the backup data on your new iPhone.
Connect your new iPhone to a computer-> run iTunes->click Device icon-> click Restore Backup button beside the Back Up Now button->select the backup date you've saved before->click the Restore button.
Transferring with iTunes will not only transfer the Contacts, but also the other data on your old iPhone, and all the contents on your new iPhone will be replaced by the backup data.
Comparing with iCloud and iTunes, IOTransfer is obviously a better choice as it allows you to choose what to transfer, and also guarantees all the selected data are safely transferred.
