iTunes is one of the most popular ways to organize files, applications and your Apple devices. Before you use iTunes to access, manage, download or sync content like music, movies, apps, books and etc., you have to authorize your computer on iTunes.

According to Apple, you can

- authorize up to 5 different computers

- authorize a computer only through iTunes on that particular computer, which means you cannot authorize it on iTunes from another computer, iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch

Here’s how to authorize a computer on iTunes.

Open iTunes > sign in with your Apple ID > Account > Authorizations > Authorize This Computer

iTunes uses the same authorization for the same computer. Since Apple allows authorization to 5 different computers, you can check your number of authorizations before authorizing other computers on iTunes. How to check the number of authorizations on iTunes?

Open iTunes > sign in with your Apple ID > Account > View My Account

If you run out of authorizations and have already authorized 5 computers on iTunes, and now you want to authorize another computer, you have to deauthorize some of them. Make sure that you deauthorize you PC or Mac before you give it away, make hardware upgrades or sell it.

How to Deauthorize a Computer on iTunes

Open iTunes on the PC/Mac you want to deauthorize, Account > Authorizations > Deauthorize This Computer

There is a way that allows you to deauthorize all computers on iTunes. Open iTunes > sign in with your Apple ID > Account > View My Account, and go to Account information page. To the right of Computer Authorizations, click Deauthorize All. This button appears only if you have over 2 authorized computers.
