Apple Music family plan allows you to add up to 6 members (including yourself) to enjoy the benefits of Apple Music. Compared to Personal Plan, Family Plan is way more cost-effective. In this article, I will walk you through the detail steps about how to add someone to your Apple Music.

What Must You Know about Apple Music Family Plan?

Apple Music's family plan is based on the Family Sharing feature, which allows family members who use different Apple IDs to access shared location, music, videos, photos, and calendars. Therefore, you need to invite your family or friends to join the Family Sharing in order to add a user to Apple Music.

Considering privacy protection, it is not recommended to add people who are not really close to you to Apple Music. If you have enabled location sharing, the ones who are in your Family Sharing can track your location using Find My iPhone, or even erase your iPhone.

How to Set up Apple Music Family Sharing

After you sign up Apple Music Family Plan, you can invite family members or close friend to share your Apple Music subscription.

Follow the steps below to get started:

Step 1. Open "Settings" app and tap "your name" to get the iCloud settings. If you are using iOS 10.2 or earlier version, scroll down to select “iCloud" within Settings app.

Step 2. Tap "Set Up Family Sharing", then follow the instructions to create the Family Sharing Group

Step 3. After that, tap “Family Sharing” again and select "Add Family Member". You can choose to notify he or her by email or message.

Step 4. Enter your family member's name or email address and tap “OK” to send the invitation.

To check if the family member accepts the invitation, you can tap “Family Sharing” to see it. If you want Family Sharing to share Apple Music subscription only, make sure to disable other sharing option under Family Sharing.

As the organizer, you can easily tap Family Sharing and select any user to remove from your Family plan. If you mistakenly remove someone from Family Sharing, just repeat this method to add people to Apple Music family group.

Why is Apple Music Family Sharing Not Working?

If the one that you want to add to your Apple Music family Group has already signed up for an Apple Music free trial, then Apple Music family sharing is not working unless you wait until their free trial expired.

If your family members are in different countries, then you cannot add family member to Apple Music Family group, unless they change to the same country account.

If you are not in both of these situations, you should talk to Apple Music Support.

If you still cannot add someone to your Apple Music Family Sharing, alternatively, you can share music with him or her by transferring purchased free downloaded music from computer to iPhone. By the way, if you cancel Apple Music subscription, you can no longer play the songs downloaded in Apple Music.
