How to Upload Videos to Instagram's IGTV

IGTV is a new standalone video application launched by Instagram. The Instagram app allows users to upload photos and 10-sec videos, while IGTV is different. IGTV is designed for creating and watching long-form videos.

Using IGTV, you are able to upload videos of up to an hour with a vide file size of up to 650MB. Besides, IGTV has channels. Creators can create their own channels, and followers can follow different channels showing videos to watch.

Since IGTV was introduced last month, many of you are unfamiliar with it. In this article, we are going to show you more details of IGTV and how to upload videos to IGTV.

There are 3 ways available to upload videos to IGTV: from Instagram app, IGTV app or on the web at Instagram.com.  

1. Upload Videos to IGTV from the Instagram App

Step 1: Open Instagram app on your iPhone, find and tap (IGTV icon) in the top right of the screen

Step 2: Tap on your profile photo to enter your own channel

Step 3: Tap “+” and choose a video from your iPhone, then tap Next

Step 4: Add title and description for your video, and tap “Post” to upload videos to IGTV

2. Upload Videos to IGTV from the IGTV App

This is quite convenient if you have already downloaded and installed Instagram's new IGTV app on your iPhone.

Step 1: Open IGTV app directly

Step 2: Tap on your profile photo to enter your IGTV video channel

Step 3: Tap “+” to choose a video, and “Next” to add title and description, you can also edit the video cover

Step 4: Tap “Post” to upload a video to IGTV

*You have to create a channel on IGTV before uploading your first video.

3. Upload Videos to IGTV on the Web

In addition to Instagram app and IGTV app, you can also upload videos to IGTV on the web at Instagram.com. Here are the steps:

Step 1: Open your web browser and go to Instagram.com. (Here, we take Chrome as an example.)

Step 2: Go to your profile and click IGTV

Step 3: Click “Upload” and “+” to choose a video from your PC, or you can drag and drop a video directly

Step 4: Add title and description for the video, and click “Post” to upload

When you upload a video to IGTV on your computer at Instagram.com, you may see this warning: “Your video doesn’t meet requirements.” So, what are the video upload requirements for Instagram's IGTV?

·         Video Length: must be between 15 seconds and 10 minutes long.

·         Video Format: s must be in MP4 file format.

·         Video Size and Resolution:

1. vertical (not landscape) with an aspect ratio of 9:16

2. a minimum frame rate of 30 FPS and resolution of 720 pixels

3. the maximum file size for IGTV videos that are 10 mins or less is 650MB, and the videos up to 60 mins is 3.6GB

·         Cover Photo: 420px by 654px (or 1:1.55 ratio)
