Now, one of the things that you need to understand is that in order to partition the hard drive or the SSD drive of a Mac, you would have to create multiple volumes from a single storage medium. After that, the volumes are going to appear separately in your Finder tab and are also treated this way by your Mac. There are quite a lot of perks which are associated with that. For one thing, you would be able to format them independently afterwards, and you could also use them for a wide range of different purposes.

The truth is that there are a few ways that you could take if you want to understand how to partition a hard drive on Mac, so let’s take a look at one of them which is the most convenient.

How to Partition a Hard Drive on Mac Easily

The first thing that you would need to do open your Disk Utility application. Then, you want to select the internal drive. However, you need to make sure that you click on the drive and not on the other bar of volume which is right underneath it. As soon as you do so, you will see two tabs right below the toolbar which say First Aid as well as Partition. Of course, you want to click on Partition.

What Happens Next?

Once you are in this section, you want to click on the “+” which is below the Partition Layout and you would be able to add another partition to your disk. You will quickly see how the entire layout changes in order to provide you with a visionary representation of the change. That’s pretty cool, actually. After that, you would be able to easily change the size by dragging a line which divides the different parts. It’s incredibly intuitive – you draw the line up and down depending on whether you want to increase the amount or decrease it.

Once you have set the size, you will also be able to give your new partition a name. Once you are through, this is basically it – you’ve done it. Now, you can use the new partition to install a separate OS or to go ahead and install a beta macOS. Of course, you can also use it to simply store information as the majority of people would usually do.

With all this in mind, it’s obvious that if you want to know how to partition a hard drive Mac, this is one of the easiest and quickest ways.
