Connecting an iPad or iPhone to a television has become easy with a lot of options to choose from. You can choose to mirror or stream from you device depending on the option available for your device.

Connecting to your TV can be very useful especially if you just want to see things on a much wider screen. This article gives an insight to different methods available below.

Lightning Digital AV Adapter

Using the lightning digital adaptor is very easy. All you need to do is go to the apple store and purchase a lightning digital AV adapter and also get a HDMI cable.Lightning Digital AV Adapter.jpg

To use the adapter, follow the steps below:

Step 1: Connect one end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI port on the adapter. The other end of the HDMI cable should go into the TV.

Step 2: Your iPhone or your iPad has a lightning port where you plug in the adapter.

Step 3: After following the steps, turn on your TV and choose to display from the HDMI port. Your TV screen should display the home screen of your iPhone or iPad.

You can now select a video to play. You can pick one from YouTube, Netflix, and so on. Once a video is selected, your apple device shows TV connected and the home screen disappears as the video plays in full screen mode.

Apple's Composite AV Cable

The Apple Composite AV cable is used for older apple devices. Older apple devices usually have a 30-pin connector. Devices in this category include the iPhones before iPhone 5 and also iPads before iPad 4.

You can use it in the same way as the Lightning Digital AV Adapter. The only difference is that you use the composite video input on your TV.

Using AirPlay to connect iPhone to TV

The AirPlay option is available if you have an Apple TV. Airplay allows you stream content from your Apple device.

The Apple TV is connected to your TV using a HDMI port. The Apple TV also needs to be connected to a wireless network along with your iPad or iPhone. Once everything is set up, select the input on which the home screen of the Apple TV displays.

Step 1: Choose a video to play either from YouTube or any other Video app on your device.

Step 2: Pull up the Control Centre.

Step 3: Scroll to the next page and choose the Apple TV option.

Step 4: Touch any part of the screen to close the Control Centre. Touch the Play button to resume your video.

Step 5: Different apps have their AirPlay icons which you can select.

Mirroring

Mirroring is used when you are having difficulties streaming videos from an app.

Once you choose the mirroring option, select AirPlay from the control Centre and then choose the Apple TV. This allows you stream the entire screen of you iPhone or iPad.
