How to Free Up Space on iPhone in iOS 11 with the Storage Feature

IOS 11 has been designed to make suggestions on how you could clear up space. Some of these features are automatically implemented the moment you upgrade, while others could be enabled manually once your device starts running low on storage space.

The new iOS 11 comes with several features, improvements and behind-the-scene optimizations which help to free up space on your device once your device is discovered to be running low on storage space. Some of these features are automatically implemented the moment you upgrade, while others could be enabled manually once your device starts running low on storage space.

This new iOS 11 has been designed to make suggestions on how you could clear up iPhone/iPad. To begin, you will have to go to “Settings” on your device, tap “General”, “iPhone storage”, and lastly, tap “enable” to turn on any of the following features.

Offload Unused Apps

One of the latest features available on the iOS 11 is the “Offload Unused Apps” suggestion provided by Apple the moment it is discovered that your device storage space is running low. You will be offered the suggestion to automatically delete any unused apps from your device to free up space. If you make this feature enabled, any apps you do not make use of regularly will be deleted. Before deleting, Apple will make sure to save the documents and data so that you can easily download them and continue from where you stopped, if it becomes necessary for you to do so. You could easily offload any individual app you want from the suggested list of apps to be deleted. All you have to do is to select the app you want to offload from the list.

Auto Delete Old Conversations

The “Auto Delete Old Conversations” helps to clear up huge space on your iPhone. Once this feature is enabled on your device, every message and attachment which dates more than a year ago becomes deleted automatically.

You have to think it twice before you decide to enable this feature. Once enabled, and a message is deleted, it is forever gone! There is no back-up saved anywhere automatically.

Review Large Attachments

The “Review Large Attachments” feature on iOS 11 is one that allows you to take a look at a list of the largest files on your device which are located in Messages, Mail, and Photos. Once you tap on any file, you will be able to have a close-up view of it. Swiping to the left of any item in the file list will pop up the delete option. If you want to mass delete certain files, all you have to do is tap on the “Edit” button at the top right corner of your device screen.

Together with all of the above three options for saving up space on your device, the Storage section of Settings on your device helps you to also see a list of all of your installed apps, having the app with the most used storage space ranked at the top of the list. Also, it helps you to be able to know how long ago a particular app had been last used.

However, it is possible for you not to be able to see all of the storage options discussed above depending on the kinds of apps you have installed on your device. But, as soon as you start running low on storage space, you would start seeing them popping up.
