Many people have a problem installing iTunes on their Windows PC. In this article, I will show you three methods to fix errors occurred during installation of iTunes in Windows 10/8/7. The full error message looks something like the following:

"Errors occurred during installation before iTunes could be configured. Your system has not been modified. To Complete the installation, run the installer again."

Errors Occurred during Installation iTunes

Method 1: Extract Installation Package

When you receive this iTunes installation error, do not click the Finish button until you follow the steps below.

Step 1. Press Windows + R key on your keyboard to bring out the Run window. Type “%localappdata%” in the box and press Enter.

Step 2. Open the temp folder and look for a folder called IXP[3 digit number].TMP. Depending on the versions you installed, the number may be different. Here it is IXP102.TMP.

Step 3. Open the folder and you will see all your iTunes installation files. Just copy them to another folder on your computer.

Step 4. Once you copy the iTunes installation files out, you can click the Finish button. Then manually run each of the *.msi files to install iTunes on your computer without a problem.

It is recommended to leave the iTunes64.msi or iTunes.msi to be installed at the last.

Method 2: Run Setup File as Administrator

Since the error occurred when updating iTunes to the new version, you can download the full new version of iTunes and install it as a workaround.

If you are using Windows 10, you can download the latest iTunes from Microsoft Store. If you have Windows 8 or 7, you can download the latest iTunes from Apple’s website.

After downloading the iTunes on your computer, locate the Setup file. Right click on it and choose Run as administrator to install it.

Method 3: Remove Related Software Components

If you still get the message “error occurred during installation” after running the iTunes Setup file as administrator, then you may need to uninstall iTunes and related software components to sort it out.

If you have Windows 10, you can click Start and select Settings > Apps > Apps & Features. From there, you can select iTunes and related components to uninstall. it’s recommended to remove the following programs from your PC:

Apple Software Update

Apple Mobile Device Support

Bonjour

iPod for Windows

iTunes

QuickTime

Alternatively, you can open the Add or remove programs wizard by running “appwiz.cpl” command from the Run window. This command applies to Windows 10/8/7.

In case these programs are not removed completely, you can also check if their directories located in C:Program Files or C:Program Files (x86) directories. Some users also recommended deleting temporary files, which might not be necessary. You can enter “%temp%” (without quotes) in the Run window and press Enter to open the Temp folder. Press Ctrl + A to select all items in the Temp folder and press Delete to delete all of them.

After that, you should be able to install iTunes by running the Setup file as administrator.

Use iTunes Alternative

Instead of trying all these methods to get iTunes to install, you can use a Windows alternative to iTunes for managing and transferring files on your iOS device. Truth be told, iTunes for Windows is not user-friendly in terms of transferring files between iPhone and PC.

If you find the methods are complicated or you want to try something new, there is a good alternative called IOTransfer that can help you do what iTunes does. You can download it free and get started.

At its Home screen, IOTransfer will display the frequently used data on your iPhone and allows you to transfer them to your PC in one click.
